The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus last Friday proudly welcomed a delegation from School of the Nations, one of Guyana’s premier private institutions offering comprehensive education from primary through sixth form.

The visit was part of The UWI’s strategic ‘Mona to the World’ campaign to deepen regional engagement and expand international student recruitment.

The visiting delegation included 19 students, aged 12 to 16, accompanied by 13 parents and staff members, led by Ms. Charm Henry. The group was hosted by the Admissions and International Office, with support from the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Office of Marketing, Recruitment and Communications.

The group was introduced to The UWI’s history programmes, and updated on international matriculation requirements. As part of the session, the Faculty of Social Sciences, delivered a presentation highlighting the faculty’s offerings, areas of specialisation, and pathways for prospective students.

The visit also included an engaging tour of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, a stop at The UWI Museum, and a walk on the iconic Usain Bolt Track, offering a first-hand glimpse into the university’s student experience and rich heritage.

“This visit represents a valuable recruitment and relationship-building opportunity as we continue to engage with key educational partners across the Caribbean,” said Jamani Dunn, assistant registrar in the Admissions and International Office. “We were delighted to host the students and educators from School of the Nations and to showcase The UWI as a world-class option for higher education.”

Known for its nurturing academic environment and commitment to student empowerment, School of the Nations serves a diverse and dynamic student population across Guyana and the wider diaspora. Its graduates consistently gain admission to top universities worldwide, and the institution has earned a strong reputation for academic excellence, civic engagement, and leadership development.

Ms. Charm Henry, who led the visiting group, noted: “Overall, our visit was a memorable experience that deepened our appreciation for the institution's commitment to excellence in education and research.”

The visit forms part of UWI Mona’s broader campaign to attract international students through immersive campus experiences, expanded programme visibility, and meaningful partnerships with educational institutions across the region and diaspora.
