We are pleased to invite you to submit abstracts for the upcoming conference, Climate Justice Now: Social Work at the Frontlines of Climate Change, Disasters, and Environmental Justice, which will be held on 11 to 12 January 2027 at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica.
This conference will bring together practitioners, researchers, educators, students, policymakers, activists, and interdisciplinary partners to examine the urgent intersection of climate change and social justice. As climate impacts intensify and continue to disproportionately affect vulnerable communities, this gathering provides a vital space to reflect, collaborate, and shape responses within social work practice, research, and education.
We welcome submissions that engage with one or more of the following themes:
- Climate justice and social work
- Disaster preparedness, response, and recovery
- Environmental racism, inequality, and structural justice
- Innovations in practice, policy, and education
Abstracts should be between 250 and 300 words and may be submitted as individual papers, panel presentations, interactive workshops, or posters.
Key Dates:
- Abstract submission deadline: 31 August 2026
- Notification of acceptance: 1 October 2026
Submissions and enquiries should be sent to: mona-socialworkclimatejusticeconference@uwi.edu
We especially encourage contributions that centre the voices and experiences of communities most affected by climate change and environmental injustice, including those in the Caribbean and the Global South.
We look forward to your contribution and to welcoming you to Jamaica for this important conversation.
