Bachelor of Basic Medical Sciences (BBMEDSCI)

The degree of Bachelor of Basic Medical Sciences (BBMedSci.) is awarded on the basis of a programme of studies comprising courses in medical science disciplines listed in the Appendix, together with Foundation courses.

The degree programme offers majors in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Physiology. A student must declare a major at the time of entry into the degree programme. A major may be changed up to the beginning of the second year of the programme; no change will be allowed thereafter.

The following types of courses, which may consist of both theoretical and practical parts, are offered:
- Courses taught by the Faculty of Medical Sciences;
- Foundation Courses. All core subjects are compulsory.
- A course in the programme extends over one semester, but in some cases, may extend over two (2) semesters. The weighting of a course is expressed in terms of credits.
- In order to be eligible for the award of the degree, candidates must have obtained passes in courses equivalent to a minimum of ninety (90) credits in one of the major disciplines and nine (9) credits in the Foundation Courses.
