The University of Glasgow (UoG) and The UWI Mona School of Education are pleased to announce a series of collaborative hybrid seminars focused on innovative teaching methods and fostering academic exchange. These seminars will be held on March 27th and 28th at the Mona Campus.
This partnership builds upon a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) established in 2019, funded by beneficiaries of slavery during the 18th and 19th centuries. The MoU aims to strengthen relations between the two institutions through joint research initiatives and cultural understanding.
A delegation of four from the UoG arrived in Jamaica on Tuesday, March 26. Throughout their visit, they will participate in a university tour, engage in discussions with UWI faculty, and experience the rich Jamaican culture through various activities. The highlight of the visit will be the transformative education seminars scheduled to take place on Wednesday and Thursday.
The first seminar, which will be held on March 27, at 6:00 P.M., will focus on the effective use of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in education. This interactive workshop will explore knowledge exchange, pedagogical approaches, and best practices in implementing these technologies.
Seminars two and three will be held concurrently on March 28, starting at 10:00 A.M. The presenters will delve into matters such as the transformative potential of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), and the future of research in higher education, among other things.
During the final seminar, scheduled for the same day at 6:00 P.M., postgraduate researchers will receive guidance on mastering the art of writing effective literature reviews.
These seminars offer a valuable opportunity for faculty and students from both institutions to share knowledge, explore innovative teaching methods, and strengthen academic ties.
The delegation from UoG is scheduled to leave the island on March 30th.
