Colleagues,
In the coming days, you will see the official launch video of the UWI Games—an important milestone marking the return of a cherished tradition that stands at the heart of Caribbean unity, student development, and institutional excellence at The University of the West Indies.
At its core, this moment is about bringing our University community back together across the region and celebrating the unifying power of sport as a cornerstone of student life at The UWI.
We are Reunited as one University across five campuses—Mona, Cave Hill, St. Augustine, the Global Campus, and Five Islands—bringing together staff, students, alumni, and partners in a shared celebration of sport, scholarship, and regional pride.
We are Reignited, renewing a proud legacy that dates back to the 1960s and has always been about far more than medals. The UWI Games have long served as a proving ground where Caribbean champions are shaped and where the values we uphold as an institution are lived in practice. Over the decades, we have witnessed Olympians, World Cup players, and national representatives who first represented their campuses at the UWI Games, carrying forward lessons of teamwork, perseverance, and pride in self and region.
Above all, we are Ready—ready to demonstrate that excellence is a collective responsibility at The UWI. Under our institutional vision, sport is not peripheral to the academic mission; it is an integral pillar that bridges intellectual pursuit with physical development, leadership formation, and social impact across the Caribbean.
As we look ahead to the official start of the UWI Games in May, I invite your full engagement and support. Whether through mentorship, coordination, encouragement, or visible presence, your contribution will help ensure that these Games reflect the very best of our University.
I thank you for your continued commitment and wish all participants and supporters a successful and memorable UWI Games.
Best wishes,
Professor Sir Hilary Beckles
Vice-Chancellor
