UPDATE ON SALARY NEGOTIATIONS

The UWI, Mona Campus

The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, is aware that a small group of Administrative, Technical and Service (ATS) staff members is currently protesting over unpaid salaries and has gathered at the University's main entrance.
The University wishes to make it clear that all salaries due to faculty and staff have been paid in full and on time for each pay period. There is, therefore, no issue of unpaid salary at the University.

The matter currently under negotiation relates to claims submitted in 2023 by the University’s three recognised unions for a comprehensive salary review. Recognising that the review and negotiation process would require time, the Government approved an interim salary adjustment of 15 per cent. This adjustment has been applied to salaries and paid to staff in each pay period.

The technical study supporting the comprehensive salary review was completed in September 2025. Following its review by the unions, University management and the Government, formal negotiations commenced in earnest in April 2026.
The negotiations remain active and are being conducted through a tripartite process involving the unions, the University and the Government. The University continues to engage in good faith and remains committed to achieving a fair and sustainable settlement.

The University is also committed to bringing the negotiations to a timely conclusion so that eligible members of staff may receive the benefits of a revised salary structure.
