On Monday April 13 and again on Wednesday April 15, 2026, a group of staff from the UWI Mona Campus gathered at the main entrance to the Campus expressing concerns about salary issues. The Executive Management of the campus decided to engage them, despite having no formal notification of their issues. The Campus Principal, Professor Densil A. Williams who is travelling on university business asked members of the Campus Executive Management team led by Acting Deputy Principal, Professor Marvin Reid to meet with representatives of the protestors to better understand their issues.
The representatives of the protestors explained that they had not received sufficient communication from their union regarding the current status of the Comprehensive Salary Review. The Executive Management team therefore used the opportunity to explain in detail the entire process of the Comprehensive Salary Review. We explained where we are in the process, and the level of engagement with the unions in the entire process. The representatives were also assured of the willingness of management to engage with them at any time, while respecting the collective bargaining process which is a critical part of our engagement with our unions.
The protestors therefore agreed that they would meet with the wider constituency to explain the process and where we are at this point. They further agreed that the administration should be given a reasonable timeframe within which to complete engagement with the Government of Jamaica and conclude negotiations with all unions.
The management of the campus thanks all our colleagues for their continued vigilance in this important process of the Comprehensive Salary Review and commits to continue with the engagement with all stakeholders as we seek the best outcome for our staff and faculty.
