On Thursday (April 25), the Unions representing the academic, administrative and professional staff at The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus signed off on a fifteen (15) percent interim wage agreement with the University’s management and witnessed by the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) represented by The Hon. Dr. Nigel Clarke, Minister of Finance and the Public Service and The Hon. Fayval Williams, Minister of Education and Youth.  

The Most Honourable Dodridge D. Miller, FB, FCCA, MBA, LL.M, LLD (Hon) has been appointed as the 7th Chancellor—the highest office-holder in The University of the West Indies (The UWI) system. Now formally Chancellor-Designate, Dr Miller is expected to serve a seven-year term beginning August 1, 2024. He will succeed Robert Bermudez who has served as Chancellor since 2017.
 

Professor Paul Brown, Head of the Department of Basic Medical Sciences and Professor of Molecular Biology, will deliver his professorial lecture on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 5.30 pm/6.30 pm East Caribbean time.

In a landmark move for The University of the West Indies’ Building Out Our STEM Teachers (BOOST) Programme, the Orane family has stepped forward to champion STEM education by committing to fund a BOOST Fellow at a cost of approximately J$3 million over three years.  This generous donation marks the Programme’s first example of family philanthropy, and it sets a precedent for other notable families to follow suit and invest in the future of STEM education in Jamaica.

The Neville Hall Lecture Theatre at The UWI Mona came alive recently when Paramount Pictures in association with the Faculty of Humanities and Education (FHE) hosted executives from Paramount Pictures and Cinecom Productions.

As a strategic initiative to generate revenue for the campus, The University of the West Indies, Mona, hosted the official contract signing ceremony for the College Common Housing Project on Monday, April 8, 2024. The project, aimed at generating J$100 million annually in savings will see the campus renovating 44 housing units to host its faculty and staff.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce the promotion of three new professors. These professors have dedicated their careers to conducting research in various fields such as curriculum, teacher preparation, and school leadership, mental wellness, body image and disordered eating in Caribbean and cross-national contexts, and sustainable construction.

Chairman of Operation RTG, Dennis Cohen after consultation with Campus Principal, Professor Densil Williams, is pleased to announce the addition of Mr. Joe Taffe to the Steering Committee in his role as Deputy Chairman. Mr. Taffe brings to the table a tremendous amount of experience as a seasoned audit and accounting professional who had a successful career in the private sector working for firms such as PricewaterhouseCoopers and GraceKennedy Limited.
