The Senior Common Room (SCR) Club has formalised a strategic partnership with the UWI Centre for Community Outreach and Development (CCOD), establishing a permanent conduit for the university’s social hub to channel philanthropic efforts.

On Friday, March 17, 2026, a delegation from the SCR Club officially handed over relief supplies to CCOD management. These items were procured following “Club Connection”- a fundraising event held last December specifically to bolster the Hurricane Melissa Relief effort.

The initiative challenges the long-standing perception of the SCR as an exclusively social space. While it remains the central social hub for academics, administrators, medical professionals, and private sector members at The UWI, Mona this partnership pivots the club toward structured civic responsibility. Under the new agreement, CCOD will serve as the primary distribution partner for future fundraising initiatives under the auspices of the SCR President.

“Club Connection” achieved its target through the support of members, guests, and corporate partner LASCO, which provided relief packages at discounted rates and donated additional supplies to the cause.

As the university’s primary outreach arm, CCOD’s mandate extends from the immediate environs of the Mona and Western Jamaica campuses to every parish across the island. The SCR intends to expand these initiatives and invites the wider UWI community and the private sector to participate in future endeavours.
